Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) maintains the SWTJC website, www.swtjc.edu. Your privacy is important to us. SWTJC has created this privacy statement explaining our information security practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used within our system.

Information Collected and Processed by SWTJC

SWTJC collects personal information to make our site easier and more rewarding for you to use. It is collected to respond to user inquiries, to monitor the navigation of our web pages, for internal evaluation, and the improvement of our website.

Information collected may include:

  • The browser and operating system information
  • Date and time
  • Web pages visited
  • Search terms
  • Form information such as names, email addresses, physical addresses, birthday, student or employee ID, social security number, and credit card information

We may send this data to internal groups at the college that will be able to respond to your inquiry. We will sometimes use this information to communicate with you.

We may also use this information to update internal systems. This will allow us to provide services or resources throughout the college system.

Any information SWTJC may store in cookies will be used exclusively for internal purposes and will not be disclosed to outside parties unless we are legally required to do so, or such disclosure is allowed by law.

Some of our web pages contain links to other sites whose information practices may be different than ours. Visitors should consult the other site's privacy policies as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these sites.

SWTJC does not sell, rent, give away or loan any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) regarding its staff or students to any third party other than agents and contractors of SWTJC. Agents and contractors of SWTJC who have access to PII are required to protect this information in a manner that is consistent with this privacy policy.

SWTJC may release PII when we believe, in good faith, that such a release is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, enforce or apply the terms of any of our user agreements, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SWTJC, our users or others.

How SWTJC Protects Your Information

SWTJC has put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and procedural controls to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security and correctly use the information we collect. We secure transmission, storage, and retrieval of information that is under the control of SWTJC.

To protect against unauthorized access, SWTJC implements access management, login expiration, and security measures consistent with information security best practices. The college’s security procedures require us to request proof of identity before disclosing personal information to you. As an additional safety precaution, sign out when you are finished using your SWTJC accounts.

We urge you to protect your privacy, do not share any account information or passwords used to access our site. SWTJC will never request your password from you.

How You Can Access, Correct or Restrict Release of Your Information

Employees: To review or confirm your contact information, login to Self-Service from the SWTJC web site.  To correct your home address, telephone, or emergency contacts, please email the Payroll Office at payroll@swtjc.edu.

Students: See the Student Handbook, Section III Student Records for restricting the release of directory information.  Non-Dual Credit Students, please fill out the top portion of the Readmission Form to update your student data.  Dual Credit Students, please fill out the Dual Enrollment Student Data Update Form. Please turn in the update form at your nearest campus location.

Your Consent and Changes

If SWTJC decides to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this page so that you will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.
