The Federal College Work-Study Program (FCWSP) is an employment program that provides on and off-campus work experience opportunities for students while gaining an education. The FCWSP is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on your financial need. If you are interested in applying for the Work-Study program you first must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Secondly, you must submit a Work-Study application to the Financial Aid Office, and finally, you will be required to attend a College Work-Study Seminar during the semester you are hired. The Work-Study application can be found on the Student Employment page and can be uploaded to the Self-Service page

If you have questions about the program, please contact the SWTJC Financial Aid Department at (830) 591-7368. Federal Financial Aid Regulation

It is important to take academic courses that match your program’s degree requirements because federal and state governments have mandated that all students receiving financial aid must take courses that apply towards their degree program.

College institutions are held accountable to make sure students are taking the proper courses, and could lose their ability to offer financial aid to all students if they do not comply with this federal regulation.

The federal financial aid regulation applies to all academic semesters.

Pre-requisite Courses

Pre-requisite courses for federal aid since they are needed to fulfill the actual requirements for a student’s degree program. –Note: prerequisites are not always listed in the academic advisement report for a specific degree program; however, if prerequisites are required for the degree program a student is pursuing, these will be noted in their student account so that they may receive federal funding for these particular courses.

Non-degree

Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for federal student financial aid, or for state and institutional grants and scholarship; therefore the federal financial aid regulation does not apply.

Remedial Coursework Limit

30 semester hours

Courses required for transfer Bachelor's Degree

Once a student completes their academic requirements for their degree plan program at SWTJC, financial aid will not cover additional courses that they may want to take to meet the requirements for a degree at another university or college. Students may still want to complete the additional courses at SWTJC but will be responsible to pay for these courses out of pocket. Careful planning with an academic advisor upon transferring, or after a program change, may help students navigate around this problem.
