Transfer Success Stories are those students who have successfully transferred from Southwest Texas Junior College and are currently attending a four-year university working toward their Bachelor's degree.

Francisco Garza, Jr.

Transfer major:

Criminal Justice

Term I transferred:

Spring of 2023

What activities did I participate with around the college:

I did a little bit of everything, but specifically, I was a part of the Mariachi.

Activities at the university:

I have yet to go to the university yet, but I’m hoping to find an activity involving music. Most likely another Mariachi if possible.

Words of Wisdom:

Constantly be on the ball about what you need to do for college. It helps to not create more stress for yourself.

Career and future goals:

I hope to get my Bachelors in Criminal Justice. After that I’m hoping to have a couple amateur MMA fights and then at the age of 21, join the Border Patrol for my career.

Spring 2023

Have you completed your undergraduate degree, if so, have you pursued a graduate degree?

I have not completed my undergraduate degree; my expected graduation date is fall 2024. However, I do plan to pursue a graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology.

What kinds of activities and/or programs did you participate in at Southwest Texas Junior College?

I did not participate in any activities at SWTJC.

What activities and/or program did you participate in at the university?

Last semester I did not participate in any activities or join any groups, but this upcoming semester I plan on joining NSSLHA which is The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.

Words of wisdom for future transfer students:

Make sure to take classes that will transfer over to your desired university! Do not be scared to reach out for help when needed. Have fun and try your best!

Fall 2023

Have you completed your undergraduate degree, if so, have you pursued a graduate degree?

Yes, I have I graduated with my Associate's Degree.

What kinds of activities and/or programs did you participate in at Southwest Texas Junior College?

I participated in STEM, TRIO, and the Kinesiology club.

What activities and/or program did you participate in at the university?

I am going to participate in their STEM club and TRIO club and as well as their Criminal Justice club.

Words of wisdom for future transfer students:

Success is not final, Failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.

Career and future goals:

I want to be a Private Investigator, and soon after I get my Bachelor’s degree I will transfer to Sam Houston to get my Master's degree.

Words of wisdom for future transfer students:

Anything is possible! I attended SWTJC where I met some of the greatest teachers I’ve ever had. They helped me set the foundation that I have today! SWTJC has set me up for success. I attend one of Texas’s private schools on a scholarship in which I am grateful for. I didn’t think I could attend a college like Texas Christian University.

Career and future goals:

I plan to graduate with my BSN and work as an RN in the ER department.
