The “Best in Class” award is a performance-driven, quality award focused on a grant recipient’s performance toward meeting targeted measures, such as measurable skill gains, achieved credential and enrollment targets.
“It is very gratifying that our SWTJC Adult Education Program was selected as the top program out of over 80 providers throughout the State of Texas. This award was made possible through the hard work, dedication, and persistence of our entire staff throughout the Southwest Texas Region,” said SWTJC AEL Director Joe Barker
The funds will assist in defraying the cost of the distance learning curriculum, which helps continue to offer the Spanish GED Module and GED Flash Module to enhance Texas certificate of high school equivalency outcomes.
The grant award will also assist with the rollout of the NorthStar Digital Literacy program to the region and with purchasing classroom books and some Burlington English licenses.
Along with GED services and Integrated, Education & Training services, the adult education and literacy program provides comprehensive English literacy services with basic reading, writing, and mathematics instruction to adult learners. In addition, adult education programs provide workplace literacy services and family literacy services.
In communities across the Lone Star state, adult students gain the education necessary to find and keep jobs working in the highly skilled occupations that increasingly characterize the Texas economy.
AEL programs help Texans build a strong foundation of academic skills to fulfill their roles as workers, parents, and citizens/community members.
