Uvalde, TX, June 13, 2023 - Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) has achieved a significant milestone in its nursing program by becoming the newest chapter of the esteemed Alpha Delta NU Honor Society. A group of 37 nursing graduates from the college's class of 2023 have the privilege of being the first cohort to be inducted into this recently established organization, which seeks to acknowledge and honor exceptional achievements in associate degree nursing.

Alpha Delta NU is the only academic Honor Society dedicated to associate degree nursing students. This prestigious society is a collaborative effort between Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) and the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). Its mission is to strengthen the bond between both organizations while providing excellent nursing graduates opportunities to showcase their dedication and professionalism.

To qualify for membership in Alpha Delta NU, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate exemplary integrity and professionalism. The newly established Theta Nu Chapter at SWTJC proudly welcomed its first cohort of inductees, comprising 36 outstanding students who embody the excellence of the associate degree pathway.

The inaugural inductees of the Theta Nu Chapter at SWTJC include Jose Barrera, Linda Crutcher, Dezarey Bonner, Aide Robles, Blanca Garcia, Priscilla Hernandez, Cynthia Hessler, Lizeth Lopez, Teresa Mancha, Daniela Reyna, Anna Paula Rodriguez, Jennifer Rosas, Ciara Salas, Asia Santos, and Veronica Soto all from the Del Rio campus.

Eagle Pass campus inductees are Priscilla Ainslie Jimenez, Sebastian Chavez, Josefina Garcia, Jackeline Gonzalez, Kellsey Herrera, Dariela Jimenez, Alejandra Pina, Raul Puente, Brittany Reyna, and Cynthia Riza.

Uvalde campus students include Johnny Daliling III, Lyndon Christian Diongzon, Omar Garcia, Brooke Kolacek, Tennille Lessing, Aaron Moore, Danielle Padilla, Alexandria Sambrano, Edgar Sanchez Jr., Amanda Shoemake, Raul Valdez, and Rebecca Ybarra.

SWTJC also had the honor of having five nursing students inducted into the National Student Nurses Association Leadership Honor Society. This additional recognition highlights the college's commitment to nurturing future nurse leaders and providing opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills.

Brooke Kolacek, Tennelle Lessing, Aaron Moore, Amanda Shoemake, and Raul Valdez from the 2023 graduating class were selected for induction into the esteemed National Student Nurses' Association Leadership Honor Society. This prestigious society aims to prepare future nurse leaders for their careers and foster their active participation in shared governance, professional nursing organizations, and community initiatives.

The induction of these five members from SWTJC's nursing program into the National Student Nurses Association Leadership Honor Society further solidifies the college's commitment to excellence in nursing education. Nationwide, fewer than 300 members are in this exclusive honor society, making this achievement all the more remarkable.

As Southwest Texas Junior College establishes its Theta Nu Chapter of Alpha Delta NU and celebrates the inaugural cohort of outstanding nursing graduates, the college takes pride in its commitment to fostering excellence, integrity, and professionalism in nursing. The future looks bright for these talented individuals who are poised to positively impact healthcare and serve as exemplary leaders within their profession.
