SWTJC cancels annual high school hoops tournament

Uvalde, TX, September 22, 2020 – Landra Fowler, director of the annual SWTJC High School Invitational Basketball Tournament, announced in a letter the cancellation of the long-standing basketball tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Announcement
With the uncertainties that have resulted from the current pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the postponement of our annual historical event. We plan to return full force on December 2-4, 2021.

Our tournament attracts large crowds who gather to watch some of the top players and teams in our 1A and 2A divisions showcase their talents on the court. Keeping this in mind and developing plans to adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, it is our student-athletes, volunteers, and fans' best interest that we postpone this year's event.

Please know this is not a decision we made lightly. Still, to ensure the safety of all participants, players, coaches, administrators, fans, officials, volunteers, tournament staff, and sponsors, we find it best not to organize a tournament this year.

On behalf of Southwest Texas Junior College, we want to thank all our participating schools for their patience and understanding.

Please continue to stay safe, and we look forward to our event in 2021.
