Uvalde, TX, – Last week several Eagle Pass SWTJC instructors came together and devised a plan for a donation drive to benefit the victims who devastated by Hurricane Harvey last month.

The Eagle Pass faculty and staff with the guidance of Gilbert Bermea, vice president of the Eagle Pass campus launched the “Stuff the Truck” donation drive.

Faculty and staff from Del Rio and Uvalde were also included to help with receiving donations from their respective campuses.

Drop off locations were assigned to the different campuses with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Items collected were: travel size toothbrush, toothpaste, travel size shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toilet paper, brand new bath towels, cleaning supplies and a variety of other necessities.

“I was amazed at the amount of supplies donated by our students,” said Paul Kimble, Eagle Pass mathematics professor. “We’re very proud of our students for stepping up to help others in need.”

The supplies collected at the Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde campuses were loaded into an SWTJC professional truck driving semi-tractor trailer and sent to the River Hills Baptist Church in Robstown, Texas.

The church staff and volunteers will distribute the donated supplies to victims in Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Port Aransas, Refugio, Rockport and Woodsboro, which were some of the hardest hit areas in the coastal bend area. The supplies were expected to arrive in Robstown by 3 p.m. Friday (Sept. 8).
