Longtime college rodeo coach retires
The highlight of the rodeo was a short ceremony to honor Angermiller’s 38-year coaching career at SWTJC.
On hand for the ceremony was Roger Walters, National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Commissioner who awarded Angermiller with a pair of handmade personalized spurs.

John Paul Schuster Vice President at First State Bank of Uvalde presented the SWTJC Rodeo Club with $1,000 on behalf of Angermiller.
Former rodeo athletes were also on hand to honor Angermiller including Johnny W. Pollock, Tony Reyna, Scott Snedecor, Todd Fox, Razzi Beyer,
SWTJC President, Dr. Hector Gonzales commented on Angermiller’s reputation amongst the world of college rodeo.
“Everyone knows Roy, he’s respected all over,” said Gonzales. Roy, you are the real deal, thank you for the 38-years of service, we sure are going to miss you.”
Gonzales also took the opportunity to announce the new Roy Angermiller Rodeo Scholarship by Hondo National Bank. The $1,600 scholarship will be awarded every year to a deserving rodeo athlete. Chase Ruhnke who is currently on the team, was named the first recipient of this scholarship.
In rodeo action, Tyler West placed second in the steer wrestling event, while Haley Jacobs and Ezra Sendejo placed third in steer wrestling.
Paige Dawson placed third while Shaye Jessee placed fifth in the goat tying event.
The Texas A&M University women's team, and the Panola Junior College men's team finished in first place at the 56th Annual SWTJC Rodeo.
After two events, the SWTJC men are sixth place overall, and the women’s team is in fifth place overall.
The next competition on the schedule for the college rodeo team is Oct. 19-20 in Mt. Pleasant for the Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo.
