Creative arts winners announced during annual awards ceremony
A standing-room-only crowd of over 500 attended the awards program April 26 for the 37th Annual SWTJC Creative Arts Contest.
Dr. Mark Underwood, vice president of academic affairs, welcomed contest winners and guests in the Matthews Student Center Ballroom.
SWTJC Vice President of Administrative Services, Derek Sandoval was the master of ceremonies at the annual ceremony, which recognizes the artistic, and writing talents of students and community members from across the college’s 11-county service area.
Overall winners were Davis Osina in visual arts and Katalina Miranda in literary for the PreK and Kindergarten division.
Grades 1st and 2nd in visual arts, Aarav Punalekar and Donald Humberto Iler in literary.
Grades 3rd and 4th in visual arts, Reagan Furnace and Colvin Brazos in literary.
Grades 5th and 6th in visual arts, Whitney Whipkey and Alexander Morelock in literary.
Grades 7th and 8th in visual arts,
Grades 9th and 10th in visual arts, Delaney Esquivel and Leslie Patching in literary.
Grades 11th and 12th in visual arts, Xavier Flores and Tiffani Martinez in literary.
In the college division, Valeria Navarro in visual arts.
In the community division, Jaime Sierra in visual arts and Jennifer Fry in literary.
Overall winners each received a $20 cash prize.
