Creative arts winners announced during annual awards ceremony
Dr. Cheryl Sanchez, dean of liberal arts and adult education and literacy welcomed contest winners and guests in the Matthews Student Center Ballroom.
SWTJC Vice President of Administrative Services Derek Sandoval was the master of ceremonies at the annual ceremony, which recognizes the artistic, and writing talents of students and community members from across the college’s 11-county service area.
Overall winners were Elliott Miller for visual arts and Davis Light for literary in the Pre K – Kindergarten division.
In the grades 1-2 division receiving overall honors were Avni Punalekar for visual arts, and Jeremiah Cardenas for literary.
Reeve Taylor and Cal Neutze were the overall winners in the grades 3-4 division.
The visual arts overall winners for grades 5-6 were Victoria Martinez for visual arts and Emery Grigg for literary.
Visual arts overall winner was Meghan Huerta while Christian Nevarez took home the overall award for literary in the grades 7-8 division.
In the grades 9-10 division, Frances Patching was awarded overall for visual arts and Brinlee Goggans for literary.
Jackie Carrillo was awarded the visual arts over and Larry Allen in literary for grades 11-12.
In the college division for visual arts, Xitlalli Cervantes was the winner, and the overall winner for literary was Tressa Reading.
The visual arts overall winner for the community division was Tena Hunger and for literary Kiahna Garcia.
All overall winners received a $20 cash prize, while the overall winners for the grades 11-12, college and community divisions were also awarded a $100 scholarship for SWTJC.
