Faculty and staff honored for years of service and retirement

Uvalde, TX, June 5, 2023 - On May 12, Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) held its annual Dean's Breakfast to recognize the dedication and commitment of its faculty and staff. The event celebrated their years of service and bid farewell to retiring members of the college community. The gathering took place at the college campus in Uvalde. PHOTOS
 
A notable highlight of the ceremony was the well-deserved recognition of SWTJC employees who exemplified remarkable loyalty and longevity. Oscar S. Garcia stood out among the deserving recipients, receiving a prestigious 30-year service pin for his exceptional dedication to the college.
 
Additionally, several employees were recognized for their 25 years of service, including Dr. Harry O. Watkins, Dr. Antonio H. Rivera, Dr. Hector Gonzales, Marcelino Alderete, Irma Garcia, and Luis Ruiz. Abel Ortiz and Jimmy Calliham were commended for their two decades of service, receiving 20-year service pins.
 
The Dean's Breakfast also acknowledged the efforts of those who had completed 15 years of service. Bonnie Clinebell Esquivel, Jesus Suarez, Kathryn Ayala, Sylvia Fernandez, Omar Iracheta, Cynthia Martinez, Brenda M. Cantu, Juan P. Ybarra, and Teresa Zamarripa were among the employees recognized for their valuable contributions during this period.
 
A group of dedicated individuals serving SWTJC for a decade was also honored. Karen L. Quiroz, Lori Compton Betty, Brandy M. Leon, Phillip Botello, Javier Garza, Kristel Sanchez, Milton Lozano, Raul Lozano, Jeanette Saucedo, Isabel Ybarra, and Rosa Rodriguez received pins commemorating their 10-year milestone.
 
Furthermore, the event acknowledged those who had completed five years of service at SWTJC. Irene Barrera, Sonia D. Cruz, James E. Delgado, Amy Gonzalez, Onesimo Martinez, Daniel Tidwell, Dean Wiemers, Joe D. Almand, and Delia Aviles were recognized for their dedication and contributions.
 
The Dean's Breakfast also marked a bittersweet moment as SWTJC bid farewell to retiring faculty and staff members who had devoted their careers to the college. The retirees were recognized for their many years of service, with each individual's dedication noted during the ceremony.
 
The retirees included Leopoldo Aviles III and Maria DeHoyos, who served the college for 21 years. With 34 years of service, Carlos Diaz and Francisca Hernandez, who dedicated 26 years to SWTJC, were also honored.
 
Other retirees included Maria G. Ibarra, 13 years of service; Carol LaRue, 19 years of service; Apolonio Ledezma, 23 years of service; Dr. Evelyn Fernandez, 18 years of service; Joe Barker, 44 years of service; Gilbert Bermea, 24 years of service and Johnny Guzman with 24 years of service were also recognized.
 
The Dean's Breakfast at SWTJC served as a momentous occasion to honor the dedicated individuals who have contributed to the college's success. Their years of service, commitment, and expertise have impacted the institution and its students. SWTJC extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the faculty and staff members for their unwavering dedication and wishes the retirees a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.
