Southwest Texas College Introduces New Diesel Technology Specialized in Heavy Equipment Program for Fall 2024
Uvalde, TX, August 23, 2024 - Southwest Texas College (SWTX) is excited to announce the launch of its new Diesel Technology Specialized in Heavy Equipment program, set to begin in Fall 2024. The program, led by seasoned industry professional Victor Caballero, promises to offer students hands-on training and education that aligns with the demands of today’s job market.
Caballero, who will serve as the program’s lead instructor, brings a wealth of experience to SWTX. Caballero began his career in 1980, working for renowned companies like John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and Vulcan Materials. Over the years, he has honed his skills in heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and management, eventually starting his own business in 1998, which continues to serve a variety of clients including Penske Trucking and local farmers.
Reflecting on his career, Caballero shared, “I’ve faced and overcome many challenges in this field, and I’ve learned that experience and knowledge are key. I’m excited to pass on what I’ve learned to the next generation of diesel technicians.”
The Diesel Technology Specialized in Heavy Equipment program at SWTX aims to provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in a competitive and growing industry. The curriculum will cover essential areas such as diesel engine repair, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment operation. With Caballero’s extensive background and industry connections, students will benefit from classroom instruction and practical, real-world experience.
A standout feature of the program is the opportunity for students to earn the Kubota Tech Certification. This certification will equip students with the skills needed to work on a range of Kubota equipment, including zero-turn lawnmowers, tractors, and ATVs. Successful graduates will be well-prepared to work as Kubota Technicians at dealerships nationwide. This certification offers excellent job placement opportunities, competitive earning potential, and robust benefits, all within a supportive working environment. Every day, graduates will apply their newly acquired knowledge to provide Kubota dealers and customers with exceptional service, empowered by Kubota to be among the best in the industry.
Caballero’s vision for the program is ambitious. He hopes to see the program grow rapidly. “My goal is to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the workforce. Whether they end up working for large corporations or starting their own businesses, I want them to be prepared for any challenge they might face,” he said.
The program is already generating significant interest. Last year, SWTX saw a surge in enrollment in similar technical programs, and the Diesel Technology Specialized in Heavy Equipment program is expected to follow suit. The program will initially accommodate 20 students, with plans to expand as demand increases.
Students who complete the program will be well-positioned to enter the workforce with either a one-year certificate or a two-year degree, opening doors to various career opportunities in industries that rely heavily on diesel technology and heavy equipment. Graduates can expect to find employment in fields such as agriculture, construction, transportation, and logistics, where skilled diesel technicians are in high demand.
“We are committed to providing quality education and training that meets the needs of our community and the industries that drive our economy,” said Caballero. “This program is just the beginning of many great things to come at SWTX.”
