Students, parents encouraged to complete FAFSA

Uvalde, TX, September 30, 2021 - The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online application for the 2022-23 academic year is available beginning Oct. 1 to all current and future college students.

Students should complete the FAFSA annually to see if they are eligible to receive financial aid through the U.S. Department of Education and their prospective colleges and universities.

Students and parents are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, beginning Oct. 1. Some colleges award additional aid on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There is a priority deadline in Texas of Jan. 15 to be considered for additional state grants. Also, Texas has instituted a new law that requires all high school seniors to complete a FAFSA as part of their graduation requirements.

The online application is found at www.studentaid.gov under the “Apply for Aid” tab, or if a student wants to apply using a mobile device, they can download the “myStudentAid” app, which can be downloaded from the App Store for Apple devices or get it on Google Play for Android devices.

Every year the U.S. Department of Education provides over $120 billion in federal student aid in grants, work-study, and loans. This aid assists students in paying for expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation.

The aid can also help students fund computers for school use and dependent care while the student attends school.
