SWTJC Celebrates Grand Opening of Expanded Student Lounge

Uvalde, TX, November 27, 2023 - On Wed., Nov. 29, at noon, Southwest Texas Junior College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its newly expanded student lounge. The lounge is in the Matthews Student Center.

The Student Lounge has been expanded strategically to cater to the increasing needs of students and to make way for the expansion of the Cowboy Pantry. The larger area has been designed to accommodate the demand for a more extensive food pantry while also providing a lively and enjoyable community space where all students can connect and engage with each other.

Made possible by an innovation grant from MacKenzie Scott, the student lounge remodel reflects SWTJC's commitment to improving the student experience.

President of SWTJC, Hector Gonzales, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Our students have been utilizing our existing student lounge extensively and outgrew the space. We were able to triple the size of the space and incorporate the Cowboy Pantry in the complex. This additional space will continue to foster student engagement. This is such a critical component of student success. We hope the students will enjoy the additional space provided for them."

The grand opening ceremony will mark a new chapter for Southwest Texas Junior College and its commitment to student success.
