College rodeo team hosts annual exhibition rodeo for kids in Uvalde

The cheers were loud. The smiles were huge. The verdict was unanimous - everyone had a fantastic time at the 13th Annual Southwest Texas Junior College Kid's Rodeo.

Approximately 400 students from Dalton Early Childhood Center attended the event hosted by the SWTJC rodeo team.

The event, held Tuesday, March 5, began with a prayer, followed by the playing of the National Anthem. The rodeo team members were introduced as they rode into the arena on horseback.

"These rodeo kids did a good job putting on this event and engaging the young students," rodeo coach Joey Almand said. "I’m grateful to Wendy Spear and Judge Bill Mitchell and all the Uvalde County Fairplex staff for their participation, we couldn’t do it without them."

This year's kid's rodeo included calf roping, goat tying, team roping, and barrel racing.
