SWTJC to no longer require masks on campus following governor’s executive order
Uvalde, TX, May 21, 2021 - Southwest Texas Junior College will lift the mask mandate beginning Friday, May 21, 2021, at 11:59 pm on all its campuses and instructional facilities.
Dr. Hector Gonzales, college president made the announcement to faculty and staff via email on Friday, May 21.
Dear SWTJC Community:
On Tuesday, May 18, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-36 which prohibits governmental agencies, including colleges, from requiring individuals to wear face coverings. This order takes effect on Friday, May 21, 2021, at 11:59 pm, and SWTJC will comply with the order.
This order in no way prevents voluntary use of face coverings on our campuses should you prefer to continue the practice. We strongly encourage the wearing of masks on our campuses regardless of vaccination status, however the choice is voluntary moving forward.
SWTJC will continue with safety protocols including frequent cleaning and sanitizing of all facilities, thorough handwashing, social distancing, and limited capacities in common areas such as cafeterias, dorms, daycare, and classrooms. Additionally, check-in stations to screen for fever and other COVID- 19 related symptoms will remain in place.
SWTJC continues to encourage the campus community to get vaccinated. We plan to host on-campus vaccination clinics this summer.
Thank you,
