SWTJC rodeo team sends students to College National Finals Rodeo

The SWTJC Rodeo Team will send two of their best competitors to compete in the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) from June 9 to June 16 in Casper, WY.

Callie Morgan and Shaye Lynn Jessee have advanced to compete for the national title in their respective events.

Morgan finished third in the barrel racing event, while Jessee finished second overall in the breakaway roping event for the Southern Region in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association national standings.

Morgan racked up a total of 563.50 points, whereas Jessee ended the season with a total 381 points. Their efforts helped the SWTJC women’s team finish the season ranked number five in the Southern Region.

“It wasn’t easy; these girls practiced long and often, traveled hours to compete, all while practicing, taking care of horses and practice stock and keeping the grades to be able to compete,” said Roy Angermiller, SWTJC Rodeo Coach. “We are very proud of these girls, and I know they will represent the college well.”

Rodeo contestants will compete for jackpot go-round money and scholarship dollars at the College National Rodeo Finals. These will be awarded to the top performers in each event.
