Uvalde, TX, September 22, 2021 - The Southwest Texas Junior College rodeo team will kick off the 2021-2022 rodeo season by competing at the first Southern region rodeo in Tatum, TX, hosted by Panola College on Sept. 24-25.

Taylor Lawson, who set an arena record for the breakaway event at the College National Finals Rodeo, will lead the college rodeo team into the competition.

SWTJC will host the second National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rodeo of the season on Oct. 1-2 at the Uvalde County Fair Plex Rodeo Arena. Evening performances will start at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night.

Over 300 collegiate athletes representing some ten colleges and universities in the Southern Region are expected to compete in Uvalde.
