Spring classes at SWTJC and SRSU-RGC remain virtual

Uvalde, TX, October 26, 2020 - The delivery methods for the upcoming spring classes will be the same as in the fall semester at Southwest Texas Junior College and Sul Ross State Univ. Rio Grande College, according to officials from both schools.

All Spring 2021 Academic/Transfer courses will continue to be offered virtually or remotely via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Canvas Conference SWTJC and via Zoom and web for all undergraduate and graduate courses at SRSU.

Vice President of SRSU Rio Grande College Dr. Robert Muñoz said, "We're aware that a surge in COVID-19 could occur. Out of an abundance of caution, we will keep our students in a virtual environment and continue to deliver quality education." All RGC administrative and academic functions remain fully operational.

“For the spring 2021 term, Southwest Texas Junior College will offer courses by the same delivery options as we did in Fall 2020. Academic/transfer courses will be offered virtually,” said Mark Underwood, vice president of academic affairs. “Technical program classes will meet virtually for the lecture portion but will meet in-person for skills labs. All faculty and students will observe College safety and social distancing protocols for building access and lab meetings. SWTJC remains committed to providing students quality educational experiences under conditions that promote health and safety.”

According to Johnny Guzman, dean of applied sciences, the Spring 2021 schedule for the technical programs will also be the same as in the fall.

“Technical programs which will be meeting face-to-face for hands-on labs and training include the law enforcement academy, airframe mechanics, registered nursing, vocational nursing, radiologic technology, emergency medical technician, patient care technician, cosmetology, automotive technology, automotive body technology, diesel technology, wildlife management, air conditioning and refrigeration, welding technology, professional truck driving, and lineman training,” said Guzman. “The programs which will be meeting virtually are criminal justice, child development, computer information systems, administrative information technology, and management.”

Additionally, housing, food services, and daycare will remain closed until further notice,” said Derek Sandoval, vice president of administrative services.
