SWTJC to stage 'virtual commencement' in July

Uvalde, TX, May 11, 2020 – Southwest Texas Junior College President, Dr. Hector Gonzales, announced a virtual commencement ceremony would take place on July 11 during a Facebook Live virtual town hall on Thursday (May 7).

Students who submitted graduation applications for May 2020 and declared “Yes” to participating in the ceremony have been sent a notice to their college email.

According to the college registrar, Steve Martinez, “the ‘SWTJC Virtual Graduation Ceremony’ notice will be sent to the student’s college email.

The email will contain a link where students can provide the following information: college identification number, first and last name, college email, quote, and photo. The deadline to submit information online is June 1 at 6 p.m.

Martinez recommends students communicate with the campus bookstore regarding ordering and picking up caps and gowns.

Graduates are encouraged to submit a photo wearing the graduation ceremony regalia.

The schedule of the virtual ceremonies is Dual Credit & Early College High School; 11 a.m., Health Sciences; 1:30 p.m., Business, Industrial, & Technical Studies; 3:30 p.m., Public Safety & Human Services; 5:30 p.m., and Arts, Humanities, Communications & STEM; 7:30 p.m.

The first ceremony will be exclusively for dual credit and early college high school students for all programs, regardless of academic or technical.

Students participating in the remaining ceremonies are college-level (non-high school students).

All virtual ceremonies will be hosted on YouTube, and SWTJC will publish the direct link on swtjc.edu before July 11. Upon completion of each virtual ceremony, they will be archived and remain on YouTube for future viewing.

All diplomas for eligible graduates will be mailed starting in the last week of June.
