SWTJC Cyber Security Program Fall 2023 banner

The SWTJC HSI STEM project, called the Full STEaM Ahead Project, includes increasing the number of academic STEM degree programs, technical degrees and certificates, and micro-credentials to include online and remote delivery options; increase the number of new STEM model articulation agreements with Universities and Independent School Districts and STEM industry partnerships; improve the STEM course success rate; and improve academic and student support services for STEM students.

An app where you can talk with other students from around the world if you’re struggling and worried about your mental health. Your student email address will give you free access, just download TalkCampus from the app stores. It’s a place just for you, no staff, no fear of judgement, just instant ongoing support.


Zen Den

Zen Den

The Zen Den was made to be a place of self-care. Whether that be sitting/laying down listening to our sound machine or playing your music on a Bluetooth speaker, or just taking a few minutes to sit in the dark with the stars projecting on the ceiling. We hope to provide a little something for everyone. We have a tiny sharing library where you can take a book or leave a book, an essential oils machine, and some little gadgets to take you away from screen time if you so choose. Also provided is a yoga mat, as well as a QR Code for various Meditation options. The Zen Den is made for one (1) person to use during a 20-minute break unless you have prearranged a counseling session through Teresa Crow. It is not intended to be a "hang out" place with friends but instead a place to care for your individual mental health needs.

Scholarships add
  1. Rio Grande Electric Cooperative Scholarship: Deadline April 14, 2023. For graduating high school seniors whose parents or legal guardians currently members and get their power from Rio Grande Electric Cooperative.   2. Society of Women Engineers Scholarship: Deadline March 20, 2023. Applications are open students who identify as women and are planning to study engineering, engineering technology and fields related to engineering full time at an accredited institution. Several scholarships are available although only one application is necessary. For more details visit the website: Scholarships - Society of Women Engineers (swe.org).

  3. SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship: Rolling Deadline. Scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a degree in a STEM field.   4. VIP Women in Technology Scholarship Program: Deadline March 30, 2023. Open to women who are enrolled or accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or university pursuing a career in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or another related field.   5. Orchard's Scholarship for Women of Color in STEM: Deadline April 1, 2023. The application fpr this scholarship is available to either: a female high school senior of color interested in pursuing a STEM degree in college, OR a female undergraduate college sophomore or junior of color currently pursuing a STEM degree.   6. National Military Fish and Wildlife Association Scholarship Program: Deadline June 30, 2023. To be eligible the applicant must be a sophomore through graduate level student. Preference will be given to students with a history of experiences, activities, and interests in the field of biology; college course work applicable to field biology; and a 3.0 grade point average.   1. NASA Internship: Deadline March 2, 2023. NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) has paid internships that allow high school and college-level students to contribute to agency projects under the guidance of a NASA mentor. There are many positions available in different locations throughout the US. For more information, view the website: NASA Intern.

  2. National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp): Deadline Feb 20, 2023. This program is open to high school juniors and seniors and is hosted in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. The National Youth Science Camp is a residential science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities. Typically, two delegates are selected to attend camp from each state and the District of Columbia. Housing, meals, transportation, and supplies are provided to participants at no cost.   3. The Junior Academy of the New York Academy of Sciences: Deadline January 8, 2023. Held completely virtually, The Junior Academy introduces exceptional students to an online community where they gain access to best-in-class STEM resources and work together to solve real-world problems. STEM professionals mentor student teams during 60-day innovation challenges, with multiple challenges a year for participants to choose from.   4. Quest Student Research Institute Internship Projects: Deadline March 28, 2023. Open to all undergraduate and high school students that have taken chemistry. IT projects will focus on using Python, Java or other programming languages for interesting applications such as in cryptography or in global data trend evaluations. Computational science projects will utilize molecular modeling for biological or medicinal applications. Students interested in interning with us are encouraged to take at least one of the computational science certificate courses that we offer. Stipends up to $3200 are available for eligible students through ACS Project Seed Grant.   5. MIT Introduction to technology, engineering, and science (MITES): Deadline February 1, 2023. Open to all high school juniors. MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science (MITES) runs outreach programs under the School of Engineering at MIT for underrepresented and underserved students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.   6. NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Fellowship Program: Deadline January 27, 2023. The MDI Biological Laboratory’s REU program aims to engage students in scientific explorations in the Laboratory’s research focus area, while providing them with opportunities to build skills important to successful careers in the biological sciences. During the 10-week REU fellowship, all students will participate in a scientific communication course and hone their technical writing, oral, and poster presentation skills. In addition, students will participate in Innovation Week activities aimed at building an innovation mindset. At the end of the fellowship, students will present their findings at our annual Summer Science Symposium. Families, friends, and colleagues are invited to attend REU Fellows receive some travel assistance, housing, meal plans, and stipends.   7. The Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) : Deadline Feb 14, 2023  PREP at UTSA is a pre-college summer program committed to delivering science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) enrichment opportunities for middle and high school students. PREP’s current curriculum is delivered over the course of 4 years. The first year involves an introduction to engineering design, logic & algebraic reasoning. The second and third years include topics on physics and integrated algebra and probability, statistics and introduction to technical writing, respectively. The fourth year is dedicated to materials related to innovations in engineering- nano technology, data science, & cyber security. Finally, a new fifth year program will allow high school students to serve as engineering lab interns in a hybrid learning and working environment at a UTSA research lab during the summer.   8. SHTEM: Deadline March 8, 2023. Stanford offers internships intended to provide early exposure to research transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries. Students will be grouped to multifaceted projects that will benefit from their existing interests and strengths, while exposing them to new areas. Projects will be mentored by students, faculty and staff of the Stanford Compression Forum and its affiliated organizations. Themes will span and combine the science of information and communication, engineering, the arts, linguistics, psychology, biology, neuroscience, computer science, technology, philosophy, and design, among other areas. This program is open to high school juniors and seniors as well as community college students.   9. Princeton University Laboratory Learning Program: Deadline March 15, 2023. The Laboratory Learning Program is a full-time, free research experience in the sciences or engineering for high school students. Students are included in ongoing research programs where they are closely supervised by Princeton faculty and research staff. The participation dates are customized according to the schedules of the research personnel and the specifics of the project. Internships typically span 5-6 weeks during regular 'office hours' over the summer (no evening or weekend activities). Each research opportunity has its own schedule. The Laboratory Learning Program is not a summer camp. The Laboratory Learning Program does not include housing, transportation, social activities or entertainment. LLP students are not eligible to lease or sublease Princeton University housing.   10. Boston University Research in Science & Engineering Program (RISE): Deadline February 14, 2023. Rising High school seniors are invited to apply. BU's RISE program has two tracks: an internship and a practicum path. Only the internship path focuses on engineering. Internship participants are paired with a mentor and work 40 hours a week on research projects in a BU laboratory. Students will end the program with a poster presentation, and some students go on to submit their research projects to prestigious STEM competitions.
